Compatibility is the question that generates the most returns in sim racing. A wheel is either licensed for your console or it does not work at all, pedals and shifters only connect through the base they were designed for, and the rules differ between Logitech, Thrustmaster, Fanatec, and Moza. This guide lays out the rules, then gives a matrix of the wheels covered on this site and where each one works.
The rules
PC accepts almost everything
Windows recognizes every wheel in our guides, regardless of which console it was sold for, and any pedal set or shifter with a USB connection. Cross brand mixing (a Moza base with Fanatec pedals over USB, for example) works on PC.
PlayStation and Xbox need a license
Sony and Microsoft each license hardware separately. A PlayStation wheel does not work on Xbox and vice versa (the RS50 base for PlayStation is an exception once paired with Logitech’s RS Wheel Hub for Xbox, sold separately), and a PC only wheel works on neither. Manufacturers sell separate console versions of the same design (Logitech G923 PlayStation and G923 Xbox, Thrustmaster T128 and T128 X, RS50 PlayStation and RS50 Xbox), so the box you buy matters.
Fanatec puts the license in the wheel
Fanatec is the exception. Its bases (CSL DD, GT DD Pro, ClubSport DD) are platform neutral; the attached steering wheel carries the license. A PlayStation licensed base such as the GT DD Pro works on PS5, and any Fanatec base becomes Xbox compatible when an Xbox licensed Fanatec wheel is attached. One base can serve both consoles with two rims.
Pedals and shifters inherit from the base on console
On PlayStation and Xbox, pedals and shifters are not seen by the console directly; they plug into the wheel base and the base reports them. That means Logitech pedals into Logitech bases (RS and PRO pedals into RS50 and PRO directly, or into G series wheels through the Racing Adapter), Thrustmaster pedals and shifters into Thrustmaster bases, Fanatec into Fanatec, Moza into Moza. PC only pedal brands such as Asetek and Simjack cannot be used on console at all.
Wheel compatibility matrix
Platform support below is taken from each product’s listing. “Xbox via wheel” for Fanatec bases means an Xbox licensed Fanatec steering wheel must be attached.

Games and force feedback support
Licensing gets the wheel recognized; the game decides how good the feedback is. Gran Turismo 7, Forza Motorsport, F1, Assetto Corsa Competizione, and EA Sports WRC all support every licensed wheel on their platform. Effects such as Logitech’s TRUEFORCE depend on per-title support, so check the manufacturer’s list for the games you play. Our Setup and Settings section will carry per-game profiles.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a PS5 wheel on Xbox with an adapter?
Third party adapters exist, but they are unsupported by the console makers and can break with firmware updates. We do not recommend building a setup around one.
Which wheel works on both PS5 and Xbox?
A Fanatec base with a PlayStation license (such as the GT DD Pro) plus an Xbox licensed Fanatec wheel. No single Logitech, Thrustmaster, or Moza wheel covers both.
Do Logitech G923 pedals work with a Moza base?
Not directly; the G923 pedals use Logitech’s connector. Third party USB adapters exist for PC only.
Does a PC only wheel work on a console through a PC?
No. Consoles must see licensed hardware on their own USB ports.
